I Love Learning
I Love Learning
2016 – skinmatters moved, there was a holiday and there was plenty of “learning” in there as well.
I love learning.… attending workshops, seminars, conferences – I will drive, fly, go whenever I can because learning for me is one of the things that make me tick…the other is imparting that knowledge to others, giving back in whatever way I can some of what someone else has given to me….. its what makes me – me, the nurse, the skin care practitioner ..its what I base my client care on, my professional integrity…for me its important to ensure that I am updating and keeping updated on what I offer in clinic…

Heres a few of the seminars, trainings I have attended this year…
Anti-ageing ….
Dermal needling/rolling , penning, collagen induction,(terms for the same treatment) – the most incredible anti-ageing treatment that truly gets the skin working and alive, it refreshes, reduces pigment, strengthens, smooths, refines, tightens, rejuvenates, reduces scarring & so much more …….
its loved in the appearance medicine circles. Is it new? – not by a long shot (I have been doing this on myself for 16years & clinically for over 10years) – however for many it is new. This year I have attended 2 advanced medical seminars by an International Lecturer who is based in France and has a wealth of knowledge. His trainings were on new techniques in this field, absolutely amazing and also food for thought. A master practical class in the techniques of Dr Des Fernades the pioneer of dermal rolling – giving us new information on wonderful things called “growth factors in the skin” that are released during these treatments. I visited one of the training clinics in Victoria to see how they “do it” under the guidance and training of another world pioneer – Dr Lance Setterfield. While devouring all that I have picked the wonderful minds of colleagues & had treatments by them to experience these new techniques. Would I recommend this treatment – yes, yes, yes …..however it comes back to make sure you pick the best clinician to do this.
Beauty Tech Conference 2016
, this is an annual must for me as it offers more professional development and is not a products expo. Some of the topics this year were – Melanoma education, Advances in medi-spa treatments, Why we age, Functional Nutrition, MIcroNeedling, Facial Vitamin Infusions, Safety with IPL & Laser treatments… speakers are both national and international. Its a great way to learn whats current and network in the industry. I always come back rearing to go as its inspiring.

Photobiomodulation therapy or Low Level Laser Therapy
– I attend or try to at least, annually the conference on this incredible medical system…its phenomenal ….this incredible machine has taken many countries by storm – the power of light to heal, reduce inflammation, reduce pain. Cold Laser (as its often referred to) has been used for many years on sports injuries, arthritic joints, neuropathic pain syndromes, back and neck pain. I have been using it now for 2+years for mainly wound healing however there is more to this incredible “light therapy than meets the eye” – not only is it used to reduce swelling, inflammation & pain but it has incredible anti-ageing properties, calms the skin, reduces bruising, great for cold sores, reducing the pain of shingles and much much more. Yes skinmatters does have one of these amazing machines.
Laser / IPL Safety
– I am currently doing a correspondence course in this, as last year I attended the trainings in this field in Auckland and 2016 I just didn’t seem to have the time to get to Auckland on the dates scheduled. IPL & Laser are part of Appearance Medicine procedures for skin rejuvenation (such as reducing pigmentation, redness, reducing fine lines) as well as permanent reduction of hair (a quick, effective and safe way to treat unwanted hair on the body & face). A great treatment in the right hands, with the right machine. I have been performing these treatments now for over 8+years and no matter what safety always comes 1st.

skinmatters has had events in the clinic on nutrition, wellness, and just recently I was incredibly proud to be part of the team organising the fundraiser for “Move Over Cancer” – to date donations have raised $8000.00 for the local Taupo community for those needing rehabilitation following cancer.
So whats 2017 going to teach me …. lots I hope and already I am excited by some of the calendars I am seeing…
