Appearance Medicine?

Appearance Medicine – What actually is this?

Appearance Medicine has had a name change it is now known as Cosmetic Medicine. However many still refer to it as Appearance Medicine so either term can be used, they both mean the same.

Cosmetic Medicine

Cosmetic Medicine or Appearance Medicine, covers all of the cosmetic medical treatments that do not involve surgery – so non-surgical medical treatments such as Botox™, Dysport™ and Dermal Fillers. The most well known treatments are probably BotulinumToxin (Botox™ or Dysport™) and dermal fillers. These are all injected and are regarded as “lunch time “ procedures in that there is very little if any downtime. Other procedures such as laser or ipl, vein treatments and peels are also appearance medicine procedures.
Its all about facial enhancement without surgery, “pushing the pause button on ageing” – refreshing your appearance, not freezing it, age appropriate treatments and enhancing the best in you.
For example reducing lines and wrinkles using Botox™ or Dysport™. A common area is the “frown” – Botox™/Dysport™ here reduces this negative expression, so you are no longer looking concerned, worried or annoyed, in turn this gives you a refreshed and younger appearance. However Botox™/Dysport™ can also be used to reduce migraines or headaches as well as reduce perspiration or excessive sweating.

Dermal Filler is used to enhance areas in the face, hands, neck and decollatage where volume has been lost (this occurs naturally as we age) – we can give you cheeks again, reduce lines and wrinkles or subtly add volume back to your lips or give your lips back their borders so your lipstick doesn’t bleed. Even give your hands back their youthful look – hands do tell a story and we often forget how much they can tell!  At skinmatters our dermal fillers are non-permanent, our faces and bodies change over the years and anything permanent remains in the place it has been injected (not always the best look).

These procedures use prescription medicines so only a Doctor or a Registered Nurse working under a Doctors supervision can perform these treatments. The Appearance Medicine team at skinmatters – Doctor Michele McVie and RN Dianne Gulland (Dianne is also an Advanced skincare practitioner & owner of skinmatters), work together in clinic to deliver you exceptional care, service and follow-up.

“We pride ourselves on the fact that our clients have us both caring for them during their treatment, we are both Appearance Medicine professionals and this ensures our clients get only the very best in care. We love what we do and we work together to ensure our clients leave looking and feeling amazing”.
